Last week's exhibitions and new inspirations

Last week, I have visited two exhibitions: "The Brain"  at Wellcome Collection and Bauhaus at Barbican. I must say that I was not blown away by them, but certain elements I've found interesting...
The "Brain" exhibition was not about functions of the brain, but rather an outlook at what have been done to the brain in the last century by humans in the name of medical research etc. The below image was certainly my favourite.... It is called "Brainbow Mouse"

Basically in 2007 a team at Harvard developed a technique, which showed individual neurones in the brain, as each neurone expresses a group of coloured proteins and reveal interconnections within nervous system.
The photographs are digitally enhanced... But I just think WOW, love it!!

Then I visited Bauhaus exhibition, and yes it was very good, but I just felt I have seen it so many times, especially if you have studied at LCC you will know what I mean.... but still certain pieces are timeless like the chair and the product design just in general quite timeless....

I was just flicking through a few blogs, and then I came across Vladimir Markin's website... He is a Russian Jewellery Designer. O my god just love him.... check out his pieces...He is defo my favourite at the moment, and the rest of his collection is pretty impressive, especially the one called "Bridges".

Mind blowing Tom Dixon.....

I work next to Tom Dixon's complex, and I never really paid attention to product design so much up to now, until I came across Tom Dixon's shop....
Check out his designs.... So thought through, even the shadows.

Young and wonderful....

I have decided to take up blogging again...as with my job, i need constantly to look and see interesting and inspiring images, graphics etc and just recently came across two young graphic artists, whose work is absolutely brilliant. James Kirkup is only 21 but his graphics are so inspiriting and remind me of "New Order" early album covers.
Extremely talented, and his designed album cover list speak volumes. Here is some of my favourites...

As i have been searching for James's work, I came across very interesting visuals by Kate Banazi. Her basic shapes and layering technique is so inspiring, making me try to experiment with the basic shapes..Her work is silk printed

Bruce Davidson- The Legend....

Currently I am working on the project about London's Underground,I must take quite striking photographs of Jubilee line stations.. While I was doing a research, I came across this book called " Subway" by Bruce Davidson. I know he is probably the most prolific photographer, but god this book just simply blew me away. Speaking about urban rawness that is simply - SUBWAY NEW YORK 1980S.

He definetly made me think that I want to take an urban approach or maybe use black and white photography, even though my main point is to show architecture, I will keep his images in my mind.

Interesting Typography.

I found "U" magazine visually stunning. Its quite strange to have "U" right in the middle but it certainly stands out. I love their type too, very unusual...

I love this font:

and the way the images are layered on top of each other, and around the letters, I think I will take it on board for my next project...

i love the use of white space in the next one...

and the artwork for New York's dj duo creep, the way the first and last letter elongated is just bril.

I think this street art work by Ben Eine in the middle of the city street really contrasts the grey, I love the fact that he made the alphabet three dimensional and quite animated, which makes the street a little bit more
alive and maybe makes grey suits smile?

We have been going through quite intensive workshops on colour, visual grammar and typography recently, which helped me with the design of this flyer/poster for the club in East London, my friend has asked me to design a flyer for their night in April, I have done two versions.

Even though they have liked it, I was told that the most important
bit on the flyer is their LOGO, you can see it in the corner, little black square, So I had to redesign the flyer based on the square. Because I really liked my original composition, I decided not to get rid of it completely and the final result is the following:
So I have sent it off for the approval, so lets hope it will get published! :)

At the moment we are concentrating on quite a few projects and one of them is typography. I went to Design museum yesterday, where there is a very interesting installation called "Shape my Language", by a very famous typographer Bruno Maag. Visually its very impressive, as it is made out of hundreds of plastic cards with a font on each one of them. It looks like a rain of letters coming down from a ceiling. There are characters from different languages and some of them are quite unusual.
